Application of Chelating Agents in Preparation of Hydrotreating Catalysts

Taking citric acid as an example,the application of chelating agents in the preparation of hydrotreating catalysts was reviewed.The roles of citric acid in the impregnating solutions and the procedures of impregnating,drying,calcining and sulfidation were analyzed,respectively,so as to deepen the insight into the promoting mechanism of the addition of citric acid.First,citric acid and metal species can form complexes at proper pH range,which could adjust the sulfidation rate of Ni(Co)and W(Mo).Second,during sulfidation citric acid could be partly changed into carbonaceous deposits,which may play roles in tailoring the support surface to promote the sulfidation of metal species,isolating the WS2(MoS2)slabs to avoid their aggregation and facilitating the formation of highly active Ni(Co)-W(Mo)-SⅡ phases of shorter slab length.Through continuous efforts in modifying and improving catalyst preparation technology with chelating agents,RIPP has successfully developed a series of highly active catalysts(RS-1000 and RS-2000,etc)for ultra-deep hydrodesulfurization of diesel.
