On the Treatment of Terephthalic Acid Wastewater through Fe(Cu)/Diatomite Sorbents

The paper is focused on the adsorption-catalytic oxidation of dyeing wastewater via diatomite supported Fe (Cu) sorbent which has been prepared in the incipient wetness impregnation method,with Terephthalic acid (TA) as a model compound.The process consists of the physical adsorption of TA and decomposition of TA.The results show that both Cu/diatomite and Fe/diatomite have a remarkably greater adsorption capacity for TA than pure diatomite.The test of nine adsorption-oxidation cycle on 5% Cu/diatomite and 5% Fe/diatomite shows that the adsorption capacity of the sorbents decreases with the increase of the adsorption-regeneration cycle.The adsorption capacity of 5% Fe/diatomite can return to the level of 5% fresh Fe/diatomite when regeneration temperature rises from 200°C to 280°C.
