A simple inversion of 1D magnetotelluric sounding curve——Bostick inversion method and its application
A new inversion method used in the interpretation of magnetote-lluric sounding data is recommended in this paper. This method, called Bostick inversion method, is different from common curve fitting. It does not need the initial model and repeated iteration. This method is based on the foundation that the intersecting point of two asymptotes of the corresponding low frequency curves can represent the average resistivity (ρ) over depth H, but is not related to the electric character of bottom bed. The first derivative of H—ρ curve obtained with inversion is made to get extremums, which are the intersecting points of asymptotes. we can see from the examples that this method is fast, convenient and quite accurate.
