Thin-reservoir reflection and the quantitative interpretation method

Su Shengfu:Thin-reservoir reflection and the quantitative interpreta- tion method,OGP,23(4)1988:387~402 The detailed analyses of both uniform medium and reflections from different thin carbonate rocks embedded in sand-shale thin interbed series lead to the conclusion that tuning thickness is the critical thick- ness between thin bed and thick bed.Thin bed and thick bed bring different reflection waveforms respectively;so,their thicknesses should be determined by different quantitative interpretation methods respec- tively.Thin bed is emphatically involved here.Thin bed quantita- tive interpretation method was developed in the light of the princi- pie that the amplitude of composition reflection is nearly linear with the thin bed thickness.In the case of multiple-reservoir series whose vertical thickness is less than the tuning thickness,the multiple-reset- voir series can also be considered as a single thin bed,and its total thickness can also be determined by the composition reflection ampli- tude.Frequency information is an important supplement to the thin- bed research using amplitude information.The quantitative interpreta- tion of the thickness of the upper carbonate rock in the third member of Shahejie formation on LL-939 seismic section in Dawangzhuang area proves this quantitative interpretation method feasible.
