Objective To determine the potential value of imaging for spinal tuberculosis. Methods 180 patients proved as spinal tuberculosis by operation or clinical follow who underwent X-ray film, CT and MRI were reviewed. They were classified A, B or C in term of imaging and clinical symptom. A was the normal of X- ray film and positive of CT or MRI. B was positive of X-ray film, CT and MRI. C was with the neurological symptoms. Results 40 patients ( 40/180 ) were categorized as A . They had short duration ( 4 months ) and invaded less vertebrae ( 1 vertebrae ) . CT showed lesion of vertebrae . 70 patients ( 70/180 ) were categorized as B . They had long duration ( 5~12 months) and invaded more vertebrae (2~3). CT showed lesion of vertebrae and bone fragments in spinal canal. MRI showed the swelling of tissue of vertebrae and cold abscess. 70 patients (70/180) were categorized as C. They had long duration. If they have short duration, the lesion was located in the back of vertebrae. CT showed lesion of vertebrae and bone fragments in spinal canal. MRI showed epidural abscess and kyphosis of spine who compressed spinal cord and degeneration of spinal cord. Conclusion X-ray film with CT are roundly show spinal tuberculosis, and for the patient with neurological symptoms, combined with MRI.
