Discussions on general design of large scale variable speed wind turbine

Several problems on general design of large scale variable speed wind turbine,including the drive drain type in concept design,estimation of energy cost and optimal design of parameters based on cost modeling method,are discussed.The concept design is the first content to be finished in general design,where the application status and several drive train structures of wind turbine design are analyzed and compared .After describing the estimation of energy cost,the cost model is built up,and the wind rotor diameter is optimally designed based on the aim of minimum cost of energy.Finally,one research result of prototype optimal design is given based on national 863 project of Mega-watt variable speed constant frequency wind turbine.
