Design and Testing of Seal of Deepwater Production Sliding Sleeve

Most of the sealing elements of conventional sliding sleeve for production are made of rubber. During the opening and closing process of sliding sleeve,the sealing elements move with closing sleeve and are prone to wear,which usually results in a short life. In this paper,the basic requirements for the seal of deep water production sliding sleeve are discussed. The performances of several commonly used sealing materials are compared and seal forms( V-shaped seal assembly, T-shaped seal assembly and U-shaped seal assembly) are introduced. Considering the complex conditions faced by the deep water production sliding sleeve and the sealing feature of various seal rings,a seal assembly is designed and its characteristics are illustrated. Pressure test has been conducted on each sealing element and load capacity tests have been conducted on the seal assembly. The test results show that the V-shaped seal assembly,T-shaped seal ring and U-shaped seal element exhibit good sealing performances with stable pressure-bearing under the temperature of 150 ℃ and the pressure of 60 MPa. Within the same test conditions and up to 300 h soaking in the media,the seal assembly can open /close 50 times and seal 60 MPa pressure. The tests results demonstrate that sealing structure design is reasonable and can meet the operating conditions requirements for deep water production sliding sleeve.
