The correlation between the hypodontia in orthodontic patients and skeletal class

Objective: To examine the hypodontia in orthodontic patients and to investigate the correlation between the hypodontia and skeletal class. Methods:The hypodontia were determined by panoramic radiographs,and skeletal class were evaluated by lateral cephalograms. The correlation between the hypodontia and skeletal class were analyzed by statistic methods. Results:The number of hypodontia in anterior upper arch was higher than those in lateral upper arch and the number of hypodontia in anterior lower arch was higher than those in lateral upper arch (P0.05).The number of female who were hypodontia was higher than that of male(P0.05).There was a significantly close relationship between skeletal classⅡ and hypodontia in lower arch,and there was a significantly close relationship between skeletal classⅢ and hypodontia in anterior upper arch either. Conclusion:The different part of hypodontia cause different skeletal class.
