An　analysis　of　the　health　status　of　the　elderly　in　YueXiu　district　in　Guangzhou

Objective The　aim　of　the　project　was　to　find　out　the　health　status　of　the　elderly　so　as　to　provide　information　for　health　protection　in　the　elderly. Methods Using　the　unified　forms　that　recommended　by　the　epidemiological　group　of　geriatric　branch　in　Chinese　Medical　Association　1500　personal　interviews　with　questionnaires　were　carried　out　,the　analysis　of　materials　was　based　on　the　effective　data　in　1027　individuals　and　the　statistical　analysis　was　also　performed. Results The　result　of　this　study　showed　that　the　survival　rate　of　the　elderly　aged　60　and　over　decreased　with　aging.Morbidity　rates　were　in　the　order　of　hypertension　,cataract,arthritis,and　so　on　80%　of　the　elderly　had　more　than　one　disease.There　was　no　signifcant　difference　in　the　incidence　rate　of　the　chronic　disease　in　aged　people　engaged　either　in　mental　work　or　in　manual　labour.Among　the　aged　persons,70%　were　completely　or　partly　dependent　in　their　daily　activites whereas　only　30%　could　be　independent. Conclusions The　study　provided　the　important　data　on　present　situation　of　aged　people　in　YueXiu　district　that　may　served　as　a　foundation　for　developing　health　care　in　the　elderly　in　the　future.
