Comparative Study ofγ- IUDs with Different Doses of Indomethacin

The present study was conducted to compare the 3 kinds ofγ-IUDs containing different doses of Indomethacin,namely 25±3mg(γ25-IUD),18±2mg(γ18-IUD)and 0 mg(γ0 IUD).Altogether 900 cases were randomly divided into 3 groups(300 cases each).Insertions were made during the period from October,1992 to May,1993 with a 100% postinsertion periodical follow-up rate,and statistics were made according to the life table method.The 1 year cumulative pregnancy and expulsion rates were all very low in the 3 groups.The removal rate was highest in theγ0-IUD group(3.05).The 1 year continuation rates in theγ25-IUD group and theγ18-IUD group were 98.66 and 98. 33,respectively,which were significantly higher than 94.32/100 women in theγ0 -IUD group.15 cases in each group had their menstrual blood measured and compared with their preinsertion assessment.the 3￣12 months postinsertion blood loss in the γ25 - IUD group had been reduced by 33.5￣5.2%.There was no significant change in the r 18 -IUD group. But the menstrual blood was some increased in theγ0-IUD group. The results showed that the indomethacin content in theγ25-IUD would be a more rational and compatible dose.
