Study on the Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Effects of Geniposide

Objective To study the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of geniposide.Methods The plate heating tests and the writhing response induced by acetic acid;ear swollen of mice induced by dimethy benzene;absorbance of peritioneal capillary extracasate;foot swollen in mice induced by Carrageenan were perfromed.Results According to the plate heating test,the dose of geniposide(25 mg/kg) could prolong the time of response for pain.The writhing response of mice were obviously inhibited(P0.05) in the group of geniposide(50 mg/kg) and the group(12.5 mg/kg),and the maximal decreased percentage of writhing achieved 55%,showing certain analgesia effect.The ear swollen of mice induced by dimethy benzene was obviously inhibited in the group(P0.05) of geniposide(12.5 mg/kg) and the group(P0.01) of geniposide(25 mg/kg).The high dose of geniposide(50 mg/kg) could lead to obvious decrease of absorbance of peritoneal capillary extravasate which meant obvious inhibiting effect on acute inflammatory extravasate.The geniposide did not show obvious anti-inflammatory effect on foot swollen in mice induced by Carrageenan, and there was no clear difference between the concentration of PGE2 in inflammatory extravasate and the contrast.And maybe there is no relationship between the anti-inflammatory effect of geniposide and the release of PGE2.Conclusion Geniposide has certain analgesic effect and anti-inflammatory effect.
