Effect of Polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis on Insulin Resistance in Diabetic Mice

Objective To investigate the effects of polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis on insulin resistance in diabetic mice.Methods Fasting blood glucose was observed in normal mice by ig polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis(300,200,100 mg/kg).Meanwhile,fasting blood glucose and serum insulin were measured to evaluate the hypoglycemic effects of polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis(300,200,100 mg/kg) on diabetic model mice that induced by ip alloxan 200 mg/kg,the activity of SOD and the content of MDA in serum were also determined.In addition,the variety of blood glucose after ip insulin was determined to measure the influence of Polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis(300,200,100 mg/kg) on insulin sensitivity in insulin resistance model mice induced by sc HCSS(70 mg/kg).Results Polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis had no significantl effect on fasting blood glucose of normal mice(P0.05).Compared with the model control group,polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis effectively decreased the fasting blood glucose and the insulin in serum(P0.05 or P0.01),enhanced the SOD activity,reduced the MDA content in serum(P0.05 or P0.01);At the same time,Polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis improved the insulin resistance in insulin resistance model mice.All the results were dose-dependent.Conclusion Polysaccharides from Radix Codonopsis possesses a significant hypoglycemic effect in diabetic mice by improving the insulin resistance.
