Effects of Scutellarin on Liver Function and Fatality Rate Induced by Acetaminophen and Lipopolysaccharide in Mice

YANG Xiu-fen,GUO Jing-jing(Department of Pharmacology,Faculty of Pharmacology,Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University,Nanning 530001,China)
Objective To investigate the effects of Scutellarin on liver function and fatality rate induced by Acetaminophen(APAP) and Lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in mice. Methods Mice were administered orally with 25 mg·kg-1~500 mg·kg-1 Scutellarin, respectively, once a day for 7-14 days, then intraperitoneally once with different doses of APAP or LPS.The liver function and fatality rate in mice were observed. Results Low doses of scutellarin had no conspicuous effects on liver function, but high doses could elevate the fatality rate induced by APAP in mice, however, low doses of scutellarin could increase the liver injury and elevate the fatality rate induced by LPS in mice. Conclusion During scutellarin is used to treat cardiovascular or cerebral diseases,we should pay attention to the doses of scutellarin when patients confront bacterial infection, unsuitable use of scutellarin may aggravate liver injury induced by LPS(endotoxin).Furthermore, when we use APAP to treat fever caused by various diseases,if co-administratively with scutellarin,we also should pay attention to the doses of scutellarin.
