Discussion on Environmental Change During the Quaternary in Hunan Province

Studying the paleoenvironmental change during the Quaternary in Hunan province is of significance for understanding the mechanism of climatic change in the subtropical area and forecasting the future climate change in the central- southern China where having large populations. Lacustrine sediments( mainly in the Dongting Lake area),red earth,stalagmite,eolian sand and tree ring are the main materials for Quaternary environmental change in Hunan province. Past results indicated that the climate evolution during Quaternary in Hunan province is similar to the pattern in the eastern China. Obtaining drilling cores with much longer age and higher resolution geochronology in the Dongting Lake area is critical for Quaternary research in Hunan province. Researching on the geochronology and paleoclimatology of the red earth,stalagmite,eolian sand and tree ring will also be necessary in the future. Based on the above researches,the quantitative reconstruction of precipitation and temperature during the past in Hunan province will be conducted in the future.
