A Survey on Autonomy Consciousness of Second Language Learners in China
Starting from the concepts of learner autonomy or autonomous learning, this paper firstly introduces what has been achieved in this field at home and abroad. It then explores the essence of autonomous learning from the psychological perspective. Focusing on the discrepancies in autonomy awareness between Chinese and western learners, the author of this paper makes a survey through a questionnaire, the results of which have confirmed what Littlewood believed: Chinese tertiary students share the similar attitudes towards autonomy with their western counterparts. Given Chinese educational context in which learning and teaching is always a contradiction, it finally works out some proposals for foreign language teachers in China.
