Study on No "Elephant Foot" Erosion in BF Hearth of Carbon Composite Brick

Four years after startup of Gaoyi Steel's No.4 BF,it is found that the erosion of the hearth refractory is quite less,and no "elephant foot" erosion appears.The main reason is the carbon composite bricks features excellent thermal conductivity,which can promote formation of viscous protective layer on hot surface of the bricks,and the ceramic phase and good wettability of slag ensure the stability of the protective layer,providing further protection for the brick lining.By observing and measuring hearth and bottom erosion profile during intermediate maintenance,a one-dimensional steady heat transfer model is setup to make calculation for the protective layer.The calculation results prove that the protective layer,with thickness of about 140 mm,is evenly distributed in height direction and the protective layer at the joint area of furnace bottom and hearth side wall presents good coverage with thickness ranging from 180 to 200 mm.
