New Zeolite/Cordierite Monolithic Catalyst in Lean-Burn Gasoline Engine

Titanium silicalite (TS) was in-situ synthesized on the surface of honeycomb-shaped cordierite under hydrothermal conditions to reduce NO_x emissions of a lean-burn engine. XRD, SEM and ICP techniques confirmed that TS-1 zeolite crystals successfully grew on the surface of cordierite, and titanium atoms had gotten into the frameworks of TS-1 zeolite. Moreover, the catalyst had good heat resistance in the presence of water. Investigations on a lean burn engine showed that NO_x could be removed by using HC and CO in the exhaust gas as reducing agents. When the catalyst was used , the NO_x conversion could reach a maximum of 40~0_0. At the same time, the HC conversion was about 79.4~0_0, whereas the CO conversion was 27.4~0_0.
