Pedestrian-Vehicle Conflict Observation and Characteristics of Road Section

Based on traffic conflict technique and the videotaping of 9 uncontrolled pedestrian crosswalk,this paper establishes the severity index of pedestrian-vehicle conflict by identifying the vehicle velocity,vehicle track change and pedestrian's risk-avoiding behavior.Risk-avoiding behavior characteristics of both the vehicle and pedestrian are summarized and analyzed.The pedestrian cross velocity is linear to the vehicle speed on the road section.Most vehicles make evasive efforts within 28 m in front of the conflict point.And pedestrians tend to cross in group when the pedestrian volume is 120~140 h-1 or the vehicle interval is 85~100 m.
