Numerical simulation on the flow characteristics of the primary metering groove

In order to study the flow characteristics of the coolant in primary metering groove, the N-S equation suitable for the laminar flow in primary metering groove was obtained by introducing the concept of roughness-viscosity model μR , replacing the viscosity μwith the effect viscosity μ1,eff, and then calculating. The numerical prediction shows that the calculation results obtained from the model μ1,eff =μR +μ are in good agreement with the experimental results. It indicates that, for the coolant laminar flow in the primary metering grooves with the hydraulic diameter Dh≈0.16mm - 0.18mm, the micro-scale effect could be neglected, but the effect of surface roughness on the fluid flow must be considered.
