Hydrocarbon Fuel-Soluble Palladium Nanoparticles for Catalytic Combustion of High Density Fuel

Ignition and combustion are very important for the application of high density fuel in new aerospace engines. Stearic acid monolayer protected palladium nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized by FTIR,NMR,DTA and TEM. It is found that the particle size decreased with the increase of stearic acid/Pd molar ratio in the synthetic mixture. And the particles were well dispersed in fuel very stably. The catalytic performance in high density fuel(HD-01) ignition and combustion was evaluated. The results show that the addition of 0.01‰ Pd MPCs(the stearic acid/Pd ratios are 4:1) in HD-01 could reduce the ignition temperature by about 230°C.
