Impact of Urban-Rural Dual Social Security on Rural Workers Settling Down in Cities

CHEN Hong;QIN Li-jian;HU Bo;School of Languages and Media,Anhui University of Finance and Economics;School of Finance and Public Administration,Anhui University of Finance and Economics;
Based on the national survey data of the national migrant workers' mobility,the recursive simultaneous equation model is used to empirically test the impact of urban-rural dual social security on the settlement of migrant workers.The study finds that,firstly,from the perspective of rural social security,rural medical insurance in the hometown has significantly hindered the migrant workers' willingness to settle down in cities,while the rural pension insurance has not.Secondly,from the perspective of urban social security,the urban medical insurance and endowment insurance of the working places have significantly promoted the migrant workers' willingness to settle in the city.Thirdly,from the perspective of the same type of social security,the hindering degree of the rural medical insurance on the willingness of migrant workers settle down in the city,is higher than absorption degree of the urban medical insurance on that.The urban endowment insurance of the working place is suitable for the migrant workers to settle down in the city.The degree of absorption is higher than the barrier of rural endowment insurance.Therefore,it is necessary to establish a unified social security system for urban and rural areas,realizing the transfer of social security for migrant workers and improving the coverage of various social security for migrant workers,so as to promote the urbanization of migrant workers and the construction of a unified urban and rural labor market.
