The value of DPOAE in early detecting auditory dysfunction in the aged
Objective To investigate the value of DPOAE in detecting auditory dysfunction of the aged in early stage. Methods The subjects were classified into three groups by age and hearing threshold: the young control group, the aged group A and the aged group B. The pure-tone hearing thresholds of subjects in the aged group B were abnormal. The others were normal. Auditory function of all the subjects were measured by multiple testing methods, including pure-tone audiometry , OPOAE and so on. Results There were significant differences in DPOAE amplitude and DPOAE detection threshold among the three groups. The detected, DPOAE rate of the aged group B decreased obviously as compared with other groups. Conclusion: DPOAE is a sensitive method to detect auditory dysfunction of the aged, diagnoses presbycusis in the early stage and prompts effective treatment.
