A study on the status quo of aged population with hearing loss in China

Objective To understand the current status and epidemiological characteristics of aged people with hearing loss in China and further develop the strategies and measures to prevent age-related hearing loss according to China's national conditions. Methods The data of the Second China National Sample Survey on Disability were statistically analyzed to describe the distribution characteristics. Results The prevalence rate of age-related hearing loss was 11.04%. Grade three and four hearing loss accounted for 79.13%. The hearing loss of aged people was mainly due to presbycusis, accounting for 66.87%; hearing loss due to unknown causes for 8.91%; tympanitis making up 8.62%. Conclusion It is meaningful to enhance the prevention and treatment for hearing diseases and reduce the risk of hearing loss for improving the quality of life for the aged people.
