Development and Performance of Cathode Catalyst for Direct Ethanol Fuel Cell

Three different catalysts, Fe_3 O_4@MWCNT、Co_3O_4@MWCNT、CoFe_2O_4@MWCNT were prepared using multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNT) as carriers and FeCl_3·6 H_2 O and CoCl_2·6 H_2 O as precursor. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and BET. With commercial Pt/C as reference, the electrocatalytic activity and stability of the catalysts were tested, The results showed that the CoFe_2O_4@MWCNT has obvious reduction peak in cyclic voltammetry curves at 50 mV/sand oxygen condition. The CoFe_2O_4@MWCNT had a high current density of-5 mA·cm~(-2) in the LSV curve with a scanning speed of 10 mV/s, 1 600 rpm and is approximately 4 e-system in the ORR reaction. Therefore, the prepared CoFe_2O_4@MWCNT catalyst has excellent electrocatalytic performance and sability, and lays a foundation for the development of new cathode catalysts.
