Value of OAE in Diagnosis of Meniere's Disease

Liu BO, Liu Chan, Liang Fenghe, et al. (Beijing Institute of Otorhinolaryngology, 100005)
This is a paper involved in diagnostic method for Meniere' s disease. The diagnosis was based on the Chinese MD's standard worked out in 1997. One of established guiding principles in that hearing loss should be present. Otoacoustic emission(OAE) could provide very useful information for evaluating hearing level, especially it could focus on the cochlear function. In this research, OAE results were abnormal, the amplitude of OAE decreased at low frequency region, and the contour of DPOAE-gram showed an ascending curve. In 74% of tested ears, SOAE could not be recorded, suggesting that the cochlear function is abnormal and the hearing of those subjects with vertigo was damaged potentially. Some slight hearing changes could be detected by OAE test in these patients. So, OAE test is very useful tool for evaluation of hearing function, and the application of this method could improve the diagnostic level of MD.
