ANALYSIS OF DEFLECTION BEHAVIOR OF SOIL NAILING BY FEM

In this paper a true three - dimensional finite element model has been developed to model the behavior of soil nailed structures. In this finite model, the nonlinear stress - strain relationship of soil, the soil - nail interaction and the staged construction are all taken into consideration. An analysis of the ground movements of an engineering case is presented. The computed horizontal soil movements for various stages of excavation are compared with the field measurements. The agreement between the measured and the computed results is good, which proves the reliability of the method. Therefore, the FEM for soil nailing will find wide engineering application in the future.
