Zhang Jianren Liu Yang (Tsinghua University) (Changsha Communications University)  
The genetic algorithms (GAS) and artificial neural network (ANN) are adopted to analyze the reliability of cable--stayed bridges. Gilders and towers of two cable--stayed bridges are analyzed under several failure modes.We consider Several major failure modes that including the in-plane bending and torsion, vibration induced by the wind, and buckling in the direction perpendicular to the plane of bridge. The GAS is used to find the design point that is an optimizing problem. The ANN serves as a limit state function. Numerical results show that the GAS and ANN can give a new idea and new way to study the reliability of the cable-stayed bridges with long span.
