SEISMIC DISPLACEMENT CONTROL FOR SUPER-LONG-SPAN CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES

For a super-long-span cable-stayed bridge, it is often required that the main tower be essentially elastic under a strong earthquake, therefore,a seismic isolation structural system is often adopted to reduce the seismic response. Since the seismic displacement at the end of the deck may severely exceed the allowance, suitable devices should be employed to control the displacement ,for the seismic safety of the bridge. In this paper, the mechanism of displacement control, the practical device and determination of its parameters are discussed.The presented example indicates that,both the elastic link devices and the dampers with rational parameters may reduce the seismic displacement significantly, but the damper is better.
