Airport rigid pavement cumulative damage optimization model considering load stress distribution

Problems of the pavement design method of Federal Aviation Administration and pavement cumulative damage calculation by pass-to-coverage ratio are analyzed,and it is pointed out that load stress distribution in pavement slab should be considered in rigid pavement cumulative damage model.Behavior of airplane on pavement can be represented by a coverage curve of a normal distribution.Based on the equivalence principle of main gear configuration,coverage curve and total pass-to-coverage times can be obtained.Pavement load stress distribution pattern is analyzed,taking the ratio of transverse distance between load center and longitudinal center line of pavement slab to width as the parameter and mapping the longitudinal load stress maximum to the transverse border of slab,and a load stress distribution function is established.Based on coverage curve function and load stress distribution function,a pavement cumulative damage optimization model is established and verified through example.The model can be applied to optimize pavement structure design and slab size design.
