BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCE—GALACTO-OLIGOSACCHARIDE

The properties,types and chemical structures of galacto oligosaccharide are presented.Its physiological functions,such as promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria,inhibiting detrimental bacteria,decreasing the putrefactive substances in intestine,promoting absorption of calcium and improving the lipid components in serum,have been reviewed.The preparation techniques for galacto oligosaccharide with free enzyme,immobilized enzyme and whole cell as biocatalysts are introduced in detail.Its current research situation and prospects are also covered briefly.
