Synthesis of Dimethyl Adipate Catalyzed by Sodium Bisulfate

Dimethyl adipate were synthesized by esterification of adipic acid and methanol catalyzed by sodium bisulfate.The effects of the molar ratio of reactants,amount of catalyst,reaction time and the amount of the dewatering reagent on the yield of dimethyl adipate were investigated.The optimized reaction conditions were established in which the yield and the purity of the ester could reach 97.51% and 98% respectively,under the selected reaction conditions: adipic acid 0.1mol,n(adipic acid):n(methanol)=1:5,the catalyst 4.0g,cyclohexane 20ml,refluxing and water segregating for 1.0h.The experimental results indicated that sodium bisulfate exhibited high catalytic activity for the esterification reaction and it could be easily recovered for reuse.
