Effect of Contour Hedgerows on Control of Soil Erosion

Cai Qiangguo(Institute of Geography,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101)Li Silong(Department of City and Environment Sciences, Beijing University)  
Based on statistical analysis on observation data and experimental data from contour hedgerow plots at Hongshiyan in Zigui county ,the results revealed that contour hedgerows might effectively control soil erosion.Though contour hedgerows alleviated the part topgraphy,this is not the main reasons to reduce soil erosion.Because the roots of contour hedgerows can reduce runoff velocity,sediment carrying capacity becomes smaller and rills are less likely to form,so soil loss become less.
