Mechanisms of Copper Uptake,Transportation and Detoxification in Plants

Copper is an essential micronutrient for plant metabolism, but it becomes extremely toxic when presenting in excessive amount.Thus,plants evolve mechanisms to detoxify Cu in the cell by approaches of cellular homeostasis.Plants have the ability to maintain optimal concentrations of copper ions in metabolic parts of the cells.A regulated network of copper transport,chelation and sequestration provides the uptake,distribution and detoxification of copper ions.This review focuses on the recent advances in our understanding of mechanisms of copper uptake,transportation,and detoxification in higher plants.
