Characteristic and Diagnostic Bands of Heavy Metals in Beijing Agricultural Soils Based on Spectroscopy

Soil heavy metal contaminations have severe negative effects on ecology and life.Thus,soil environmental monitoring and evaluation are now extremely important for regional environment protection.As one of the modern fast developing techniques,spectroscopy analysis can provide the rapid and nondestructive correlation analysis of spectrum with chemical and physical properties of soil components.A total of 111 soil samples in Beijing agricultural soils are selected,and we measure their spectrum in 350-1050 nm(UV/VNIR) by ASD FieldSpec Pro.In this paper,the main objective is trying to find the characteristic and diagnostic spectral bands of the soil heavy metals including Cr,Ni,Cu,Zn,As,Cd,Pb,and Hg with principal component analysis(PCA) and correlation analysis.Results show that first-order derivative spectrum is a perfect choice to extract information of soil heavy metals compared to the original spectrum and their second-order derivative,and PCA can describe the major structure of their spectrum,bivariate correlation analysis further to explore the quantitative relationship between diagnostic spectral bands and the content of soil heavy metals.There exist significant correlations at 0.01-level between soil heavy metals and the diagnostic spectral bands.Spectrum of 415-570 nm center wavelength and more than 950 nm(less than 1025 nm) are the main characteristic and diagnostic bands of soil heavy metals in Beijing.The research on soil spectral reflectance features is the basis for soil properties monitoring and evaluation with regional remote sensing images.At the same time,regional monitoring with remote sensing needs to consider more complex conditions: scale effects,complicated environmental factors,influences of other soil properties,a variety of geochemical behavior of soil heavy metals,and et al.
