PREPARATION OF GRANULAR ACTIVATED CARBON FROM FLY ASH

The process for preparing granular activated carbon with the fly ash as raw material and coal tar as binder was explored using the orthogonal intersection method. The relationships between the activation factors and the adsorption properties of the obtained granular activated carbons were analyzed. A sequence in terms of the effect on the properties of the ACs has been established as follows: activation temperature activation time carbonization time flow rate of water vapor. For the AC made under the optimized conditions, its iodine value and specific surface area are 977.9 mg/g and 911.1 m2/g respectively.
