Research advances of high-temperature oxidation resistant ceramic coatings for carbon/carbon composites

Ceramic coatings are susceptible to microcracks due to the inherent brittleness of the coatings and the mismatch of the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) between carbon/carbon(C/C)matrix and coating. It is a common method to introduce a second phase to toughen the high-temperature oxidation resistant ceramic coatings. The toughening mechanisms were introduced. The new advances of the second phase toughening oxidation resistant ceramic coatings were reviewed. The present problems and the main research direction of the second phase toughening ceramic coatings for C/C composites were also proposed.
