Study of Three-Dimensional Propagation Properties of The Flare-Associated Interplanetary Shock Wave with Observed IPS Data

The three-dimensional propagation properties of flare-associated shock wave have been studied with the IPS data of 43 flare events (importance ≥2) during the period 1975-1982. In this paper the dynamical effects of the shock wave propagation have been considered based on the blast wave model propagating in the moving medium with variable density. The results show that the propagation of the flare-shock wave is an-isotropic. There are asymmetries both in east-west and south-north directions with respect to the flare normal; the direction of fastest propagation tends to the average position of the heliospherical current sheet in latitude and the direction of IMF in Longitude; the longitudinal range of flare-shock wave (≥±90°) is greater than the latitudinal range (±40°-±60°). The distribution of the flare-shock wave energy is also anisotropic, which concentrates mainly in the vicinity of the heliospherical sheet. Three-dimensional propagation properties of the flare-shock wave would bear close relations to the magnetic structure on the sun and the large scale structure in the interplanetary' space.The propagating properties of the flare-associated interplanetary shock wave obtained in this paper are consistent with the statistical invesfcigations of multiple spacecrafts measurments.
