STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF HISTORICAL DATA OF FIREBALL FALLS IN CHINA

Liu Xielin(Institute for Thought & Culture, Tsinghua University)
An analysis of historical data of fireball falls in China is made using a mathematical method. The fall periods of sounding fireballs are found to be 170.6, 102.4, 66.1 = 2.2, 27.3 + 0.4, 23.3, 17.9 + 0.4, 14.8 + 0.1, 12.4 + 0.1, 10.5 + 0.3 (years). We reached two conclusions: First, the sounding fireballs, like meteorites, come from Apollo or Amor population. The factors which effect the fall of sounding fireballs are the Yarkovsky effect and the perturbation of Jupiter. Second, the soundless fireballs, like meteor showers, come from cometary material.
