The Reference and Inspiration of the Development of Competitive Sport at Arizona State University in the United States

By using the methods of field visit and in-depth interview on the competitive sports in USA universities, ASU sports venue facilities and operation scale, ASU coaches and team compositions in different sport events, ASU sport event varieties and student athletes etc. with the hope of benefiting and enlightening China university competitive sports development. In the research and interview, competitive sports in USA universities have the following features: it persists the advanced idea of amateurism and deeply integrates with higher education, which avoids the conflict with professionalism; establishing stadium facilities by raising money; exercising professional management and industrial operation and hosting league between different universities; recruiting coaches at high cost and getting coach team well equipped and fine divided; arranging sport events reasonably, balancing the number of male and female student athletes and well dealing with the contradiction between study and training. Enlightenments: competitive sports return to school sports, and sports events are gradually changed from government office to society, and competition system reform gradually moves towards market operation; the construction of stadium and gymnasiums needs to expand sources of funds, introduce social capital to participate in construction, gradually improve the operation and management of stadium and gymnasium, and strengthen the construction of coaches. To improve the subjective initiative of the coaches, to support the policy, to adjust the sports traditional project schools, to balance the regional distribution of sports projects, to gradually form a regional competition system, to strengthen the construction of the students' athletes, to balance the number of male and female athletes, and to solve the contradictions among the training and education.
