Effects of Homogenization Treatment on Microstructure and Properties of 7B50 Aluminum Alloy

Effects of homogenization treatment on microstructure and properties of 7B50 aluminum alloy have been investigated by optical microscope(OM),XRD(X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscope). The results indicate that the content of residual un-equilibrium eutectic phase with more uniform distribution which is mainly composed of immiscible Fe-eutectic phase in the alloy homogenized by two-step homogenization treatment is much less than that homogenized by one-step homogenization treatment. Compared with that precipitated from the alloy homogenized by one-step homogenization treatment,the secondary phase Al3Zr particle precipitated from the alloy homogenized by two-step homogenization treatment exhibits more dispersive and uniform distribution with slight coarse,which is helpful to the improvement of strength of the alloy.
