Research on a Artificial Heart With Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and Magnetic Bearing

This paper presents a novel artificial heart, which is directly driven by a compact permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM)with axial-field configuration. The rotor of the PMSM is fixed to the pump impeller of the artificial heart, and is levitated by a magnetic bearing. This paper focuses on the structure description, design considerations and analyses of the PMSM and magnetic bearing, and gives some relevant simulation results.
