Preparation, Characterization and Properties of Cr_2O_3 Nano-Powders

The precursors Cr(OH)_3 were synthesized by the chemical precipitation reaction of Na_2Cr_2O_(7)·2H_2O and Na_2S·9H_2O (molar ratio 1∶2.5). Cr_2O_3 nano-powders were prepared using a thermal decomposition reaction of the Cr(OH)_3 at 600 ℃ for 2.5 h, and characterized by FT-IR, XRD, TEM and TG techniques. The results indicate that the nano-powder has an average particle size of 56.6 nm, and the infrared absorption peaks of Cr—O bond blue shift. The mechanism of blue shift and the synthesis reaction in nano-powders of oxides was discussed.
