Mechanical Performance of the Composites of β-hemihydrate Phosphogypsum and α-hemihydrate Gypsum

The application ofβ-hemihydrate phosphogypsum is limited for its low strength.Aiming to ensure gypsumbinding material to achieve the required strength,α-hemihydrate gypsum was chosen to enhance its strength,which makes a lot of sense to waste utilization and environmental protection.The experimental results indicate that the absolutely dry strength of hardened gypsum improves and the linear expansion rate increases firstly,and then decreases with the increasing ontent ofα-hemihydrate gypsum.In addition,the absolutely dry strength is lower than the value calculated by linear interpolation,of which the percentage error is under 10%.Through the analysis of X-ray diffraction analysis,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy,it is confirmed that the hydration products of the mixture,which contain the two kinds of hemihydrate and the individual,are both dihydrate gypsum,and there is no gross difference in the crystalline structure on the level of atomic arrangement between them.It is found that the characteristical morphologies of hydration products ofβ-hemihydrate phosphogypsum andα-hemihydrate gypsum exist in the hydration products of the mixture by scanning electron microscopy.There is a great difference between the two kinds of hemihydrate in hydration rate which causes internal stress between the grains of gypsum,resulting the decline of strength and linear expansion rate.
