by Liu Runqing
The British Council has recently conducted a large-scale investigation by the name of "English 2000" concerning very broad issues such as what will be the role of English in the middle of the next century and how English will be learned and taught. The data collected from 1398 respondents from over 100 countries provide much food for thought. The paper discusses the findings on questions of interest to Chinese ELT professionals.
