Synthesis and Properties of CoO/SrTiO_3 for the Photocatalytic Decomposition of Water

SrTiO_3 powder with high crystal perfection was synthesized by solid-state reaction of strontium ni-trate with TiO(OH)_2 formed by hydrolysis of tetra-butoxy titanium in the presence of alkali metal compound min-eralizer.Then a photocatalyst,CoO/SrTiO_3,was prepared by impregnation method.The effect of the mineralezersis decreased in the following order:KOHNaOHNaNO_3KNO_3.The photocatalytic activity of CoO/SrTiO_3,was increased for ca.8 times when KOH mineralizer was added,with the irradiation of 400 W high-pressure mer-cury lamp,the hydrogen-generation rate amounts to 480 μmol·g cat~(-1)·h~(-1) over the CoO/SrTiO_3,cata-lyst.Characterization results from SEM and UV-Vis diffuse reflection spectra analysis show that the solid-state re-action for synthesizing SrTiO_3 proceeds completely and the crystal perfection of SrTiO_3 is improved by addingKOH mineralizer.The suitable amount of KOH is 2.0%(w).
