UPCONVERSION EMISSION OF RARE EARTH IONS AND ITS RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

Upconversion emission of rare earth ions were paid more and more attention due to their potential application in the fields of information processing, displays, water transmission, data storage or medicine. In this paper, an overview of the upconversion mechanisms of rare earth ions were presented. Different upconversion emissions of rare earth ions under different pump mechanisms were analyzed. The compositional dependence of upconversion of rare earth ions on glass compositions and their developments were discussed. In the end, the researches and applications of upconversion emission of rare earth ions were prospected.
