Dural roles of tumor-associated neutrophils on tumorigenesis:pro-tumor and anti-tumor effect

LIU Tian-cong,Wang Huang,LU Chang-long(Institute of Immunol,China Medical University,Shenyang 110001,China)
Tumor-associated neutrophils(TANs) in the tumor microenvironment, emerge showing dual roles with the promotion and inhibition of tumorigenesis and development.TANs(N2 phenotype)can promote the tumor proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis by secreting neutrophil elastase, matrix metalloproteinases, cytokines and chemokines.However,TANs(N1 phenotype) may be manipulated to exhibit cytotoxicity against tumors.Targeting TANs and molecules secreted by TANs may be an effective strategy for immunotherapy of tumors.
