On the Relationship between Siam and the Chinese Ming Dynasty

QUMing-dong (School of Humanities, South China Normal Univ., Guangzhou 510631,China)
Siam is the name of ancient Thailand. During the Ming reign, China maintained close and harmonious relationship with Thailand. The exchanges between the two countries then involved such fields as politics, economy, culture, astronomy and calendar making. As a vassal state of China at the time, Siam was the country that paid the most numerous and largest tributes to Ming. Their relationship peaked at the beginning of Ming dynasty. The great friendship between the two countries was a gorgeous chapter in the annals of history.
