Confusion and Anxiety of Identity: On Sayaka Murata’s Convenience Store Woman

SONG Bo;ZHANG Zhang;
In 2016,Sayaka Murata won the 155 th Akutagawa Prize for her book Convenience Store Woman. This work,with Keiko Kokura and Shiraha as the protagonists,mainly tells the story of Keiko Kokura's life of self-identification after experiencing confusion and anxiety of identity. Shiraha is similar to Kokura in the confusion of self-identity,but at the same time his self-identity is full of a series of contradictions and confusion,and reflects male chauvinism. The convenience store in the work,as a unique urban space in contemporary society,plays an important role in relieving the anxiety of the contemporary Japanese.
