The influence of China's entry into the WTO on college English teaching

This paper attempts to predict the impact of Chinas coming entry into the "WTO" on college English instruction, based on the statistical analysis of a study of 120 financial institutions, foreign trade companies, high tech companies as well as 320 individuals in Zhejiang Province. The results show that there exists a gap between college English instruction and social expectations in terms of users practical knowledge and skills. Some pedagogical implications have been provided with a view of meeting the challenges of the social changes which are likely to be brought about by the countrys accession to the WTO.
